A Relaxing First Day

Our retreat is at Sama’s Cottages in Ubud. Our group of women (about 12) are the only ones here, so it feels like a private hideaway. A tropical pathway takes you from the street into a lush tropical area where each of the cottages is set back with only a view to the path, not the other cottages.

Lynn and I are sharing a cottage that is beautifully made up complete with a flower on our beds.

Our breakfast was serve on our patio in front of the cottage.

After breakfast, we took a walk into Ubud. The road is narrow and is filled with lots of motor scooters.

After doing some walking and a little shopping, we had lunch at a wonderful little cafe with the entire menu filled with beautiful, healthy food. I couldn’t be happier with how easy it will be to get the kinds of food I love to eat!

Part of the intent of this retreat is to spend time reflecting - I brought Richard Rohr’s book, Falling Upward, about Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life. A key thought I read today is there are two primary tasks in life. The first is to build a strong container (1st half of life task). The second task is to “find the contents that our container was meant to hold.” I’m clearly in the second half and I’m hoping to do a lot of thinking about my “container contents.” Unbeknownst to me, Lynn brought exactly the same book to read 😀So I’m guessing we’ll have some rich conversations as we make our way through the book.

Our retreat starts tomorrow afternoon - so in the meantime, just trying to take in every part of this experience.
